Ultra Home Inspections offers a comprehensive inspection of the main sewer drainage system connecting the house to the public sewer system.

In most jurisdictions, the homeowner is responsible for the line between the house and the public connection. Oftentimes this line can be very long. Ultra Home Inspections uses the most advanced equipment to send a camera into your sewer drain system. This sewer camera allows us to get a great view of the condition of your sewer drain line.

Many homes in middle Tennessee are built using cast iron drain piping, even as late as the early 1980’s. Cast iron piping can begin to decay inside and out, as it only has a lifespan of approximately 50 years in the middle Tennessee area.

In many cases, piping known as “Orangeburg Pipe” was used in Nashville and surrounding areas. This type of drain piping is similar to a giant toilet paper roll infused with coal tar. Used in many houses built during the 50s, Orangeburg pipe is a brittle, lightweight fiber sewer pipe, essentially made of tar paper. It absorbs moisture, deforms under pressure and eventually disintegrates. Orangeburg pipe began to fail as quickly as 10 years after installation and seldom lasts more than 30 years without failing.

Whether your home is cast iron, Orangeburg, or PVC piping…all can be impacted by tree roots, movement of the earth, and poor workmanship.
